Student Research Assistant based in Shanghai
Are you an undergraduate or a master student majoring in computer science or informatics? and do you want to build more work experience with an international research team?
Director Prof. Dr. Anne Brenoe at the Center for Economics of Breastfeeding, University of Zurich, Switzerland, is looking for a highly skilled and motivated student to work as part-time research assistant for a period of at least one year . We start reviewing the applications from August 23, 2020 and accept applications until we have filled the position. The preferred start date is September 15 or as soon as possible thereafter. The research assistant will be based in Shanghai but will be in close contact with the leading research team led by Prof. Brenoe.
Tasks
The Research Assistant will work as a part-time research assistant (Approximately 10-15 hours per week) to support the start-up of a new and large research project between the Center for Economics of Breastfeeding and Shanghai First Maternity and Infant Health Hospital in Pudong District. The Research Assistant will take a leadership role in setting up the IT infrastructure in Shanghai, review and address issues with the existing database, infrastructure, and data collection processes. The position involves responsibilities that serve as excellent preparation for future job opportunities related to database creation and maintenance, including data processing and analysis as well as hands-on experience from a field experiment.
Requirements
The ideal candidate will (i) have a strong quantitative background, (ii) major in computer science or Informatics, (iii) have strong computer skills including programming, (iv) have the ability to work independently to solve problems, (v) speak both Mandarin (native) and some English (being fluent is a plus), and (v) preferably is based in Shanghai.
We welcome candidates with strong technical backgrounds who are looking for more exposure to database maintenance and/or economics.
The application process entails two main stages. For the first stage, please send your application files in English (cover letter, transcript, CV and a list of two references) to breastfeeding@econ.uzh.ch. For shortlisted candidates, the second stage involves an interview and potentially a coding exercise. Address all queries to: breastfeeding@econ.uzh.ch.
